Upgrading from Delta 5.0 and Delta 5.5

Firstly, if you have a compatible data collection interface (all excepting the old four channel ISA card) you can upgrade at no charge, simply download and install Delta 5.5  from Downloads and start (there are installation notes below).

If you have an old interface that Delta 5.5 doesn't support on the operating system you wish to use, you can return your Delta interface and pay AU$1250.00 (approx US$1000.00) plus freight (and GST if you are purchasing from within Australia) to upgrade to a replacement DataCenter4000 usb/serial data station.

Delta 5.5 does not support all interfaces on all of the supported operating systems. The matrix below illustrates the supported combinations.

Interface Type Supported Operating Systems
DataCenter4000 (USB) Windows 2000, XP, Vista and Seven
Dual Channel Serial / DataCenter4000 serial port. Windows 2000, XP, Vista and Seven
Six Channel ISA Windows 2000 and XP

* There are a number of versions of Windows 98. The earlier versions cannot be used reliably with USB interfaces.

After you install Delta 5.5 and start it the first time you will be asked to Choose a New Signal Source. Choose the style of interface you are using from the drop down list and click OK. Successive dialogs will prompt you for the additional information required for the type of interface you selected.

Changes between Delta 5.0 and Delta 5.5

During development we have taken the opportunity to update the online help with explanations that were either missing, or not practical with the old help system ... leading we hope to a more rewarding experience to the Delta user.

While we had a mandate to retain as much of the Delta 5.0 look and feel as possible, there were occasions when we just couldn't bring ourselves to follow the old thinking ... the old thinking was just unintuitive, so we re-implemented those features in a manner more in line with the way a user would think (we hope).

Along the way, we couldn't help but add extra color and pizzazz when the opportunity arose.

So, specifics ...

For those using the DataCenter4000, you will experience a dramatic improvement in signal to noise ratio, most trace noise will simply disappear ... and you can balance noise performance against sampling rate using the Setup...ADC menu.
Global hot keys F2 and F3 allow quick viewing of signal and run status at any time.
Long file names (and long everything !). The restrictions on the length of almost all strings has been eliminated.
No need to create a sample sequence before running it with Run ... Sequence.  Run ... Sequence can create and edit new sample sequences.
Interlocks everywhere ! Delta 5.0 often left buttons and menu's enabled in situations where their use was totally inappropriate... Delta 5.5 disables buttons and menu's  when their selection is inappropriate and gives improved guidance during operations.
The Delta 5.0 User Interface was very greedy on graphics resources ... resulting in disappearing buttons etc. when many windows were open, this problem has been completely eliminated.
Improved on line help ... with cross references and extra tips.
Improved data formats. Delta 5.5 chromatogram files have dramatically increased storage capacity over those of Delta 5.0, and ... Delta 5.0 methods are stored  in text format as opposed to the binary format of Delta 5.0. What does this mean to use as a user ? On those rare occasions when your PC suffers from power glitches or other interference that  can corrupt files, you can repair your methods using a simple text editor. As a bonus, the text storage format allows us to alter and improve method capabilities at will.
